i've noticed lately me and other blind friends has had stuff stolen and things broken.
yeah, okay. perhaps it's not a big deal to you guys, but i really don't see why people feel the need to steal talking watches, wheelchairs, mobile phones and designer bags all belonging to the blind
okay, so for some reason my computer messed up.... in the last 6th month, i've had a watch stolen, a bag stolen, an ipod stolen and some designer clothes stolen all by people who think they are big and can steal from people who can't see it.
it's just my rant
It's easier, simple as that. If they stiel something they don't need for themselves, they'll sell it.
Obviously because blind people are stereotypically easier targets. Where is this happening? School? If not, are you hanging around notoriously dodgy areas?
depends on where all these happen. if at school, it can be a case of bullying of some sort, or to show power. whatever it is, it should be 000 torrorent in such matter.
if its in other setting, i will suggest to have the minimum assessary that you can when you go out. that will be less attractive to whoever, and it is easier to handle for the person itself.
some people might like to show off that they are in the trans of all the new stuff, and that could be very attractive for a robber, or any chrime to take place...
If at school where are your locks? And if out in the street does it happen by force? For the blind as well as the sighted it is a good idea to keep valuables close, and not lay them around assuming the world is honest. Stealing happens to all not only the blind if we are lazy about watching our things unless it is by force, or braking and entering, if not this then.....
it's the general disregard we have for others. plenty of sighted people get things stolen. it's not just a poor blind person thing.
I've had things stolen at a blind school, (yes it can happen), before. I ended up getting a lock box because hiding things where people most likely would not find it didn't work out. Now, I'm not saying carry around a lock box everywhere you go. It was something I had to resurt to. Just make sure you don't have stuff out in the open for the entire world to see.
Some people think they can get away with it because we can't see what they're stealing. I would suggest keeping your things as close to you as possible so you can feel if someone quietly and discretely tries to steal something. I do agree with Turricane, however. Plenty of sighted people are stolen from as well.
People don't give a shit who they steal from, they just steal. Take take take.
It's got nothing to do with the fact that you're blind.
Yeah, but people who are blind can be easy targets if people are that stupid to literally take from your hands, at least those people who are stupid enough to think that just because we can't see, we can't feel either. Hmm. I see a possible "World's Worst Criminals" episode. Lol.
Well let's see. I knew a girl once who her sister-in-law would come over her house and she'd steel her perfumes or body splashes or whatever and she'd have to rebuy them. She'd tell her brother that her sister-in-law stole it and he didn't believe her of course. That stuff really bothers me. I have all of my perfumes in a very nice cabinet on my bathroom wall. Someone must've nailed it in, but it has all kinds of shelving in it and doors, but they don't lock. Once a drunk girl asked to use my bathroom, and I told her I guess, but this dog has teeth, and she said i won't take nothin'. So I stood by the door. She didn't even close it all the way, but luckily nothing got taken. I got lucky that time, but most times I do keep things by me. Like if I have my fanny pacck on since I don't like wearing a purse, I'll either keep it on my waste, or right next to me to make sure that no one steels my wallet or anything. But I guess with a german shepherd laying right next to me, people probably wouldn't mess with me anyway, but I guess you never know. So I agree with the other posters.
